The « Alpine Classic Pullman-Express » combines the timeless elegance of Art Deco with one of Europe’s most spectacular railway routes. In the carefully restored Pullman carriage of the « Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits » dating from 1931, you will experience the splendour of the golden age of rail on the legendary Bernina route.
Route & experience
The journey takes you from the glaciers of Graubünden to the palms of the south. Via the high-Alpine Ospizio Bernina on Lago Bianco, past Alp Grüm and Cavaglia, the train winds down into Valposchiavo and continues on to Tirano. Generous windows, exquisite wood inlays by Rene Prou and discreet luxury define the distinctive atmosphere on board.
Culinary delights & enjoyment
In Tirano or just outside Tirano, a visit to the « La Gatta » winery is on the programme. During the tour, you will learn fascinating details about the estate and taste Triacca wines over a typical Valtellina lunch.
Stay
The journey includes two nights in the selected hotel, including breakfast and visitor’s tax. On the day of arrival, dinner at the hotel is included; on the day of return, the onward journey home is arranged individually.
Programme
Day by day
Individual journey to the Engadine and to your chosen hotel. After check-in, you will enjoy dinner at the hotel. You will spend the first night in St. Moritz or Pontresina, depending on the accommodation selected.
Shortly after 9 am, we take our seats in the luxurious compartment from the 1930s and enjoy the captivating journey with its constantly changing views. The trip follows the Bernina line, one of the most spectacular routes in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site, to Tirano. Outside Tirano, we visit the « La Gatta » winery. During the tour, we learn many fascinating details and sample Triacca’s delightful wines over a typical Valtellina lunch. The return journey is in comfortable armchairs, with arrival in St. Moritz at around 6.30 pm.
After breakfast, the individual return journey takes place in line with your personal travel plans. What remains with you are the impressions of an extraordinary Alpine crossing.
