Schiers & RHÆTIA
On Sunday, Schiers is entirely dedicated to Graubünden’s railway history. The painstakingly restored steam locomotive RHÆTIA from 1889 returns to the rails as a technical cultural asset. Created especially for this occasion, the open-air production «Operette am Gleis» combines railway history, drama, choral singing and live music directly at Schiers station.

Day by day
Individual arrival at your booked hotel in Bad Ragaz or Chur. The rest of the day is at your leisure until the start of the journey.
Shortly before 9 am, we take our seats in the luxurious compartments from the 1930s and enjoy the fascinating journey with constantly changing views. With a guaranteed window seat, we travel along the Albula line from Thusis via Bergün to St. Moritz. While an aperitif is served, we learn about the construction history and railway culture of Graubünden. In Bergün, railway enthusiasts alight for a special guided tour of the Albula Railway Museum. In the afternoon, they visit the Bergün–Preda model railway at the local museum. Alternatively, the day may be spent in St. Moritz, including a walk and a Graubünden platter at Hotel Waldhaus am See. The return journey to Chur takes place in the afternoon aboard the elegant Pullman carriage, arriving at around 5 pm.
The morning is at your leisure for individual activities before you travel around midday by public transport to Schiers in the Prättigau. There, over this weekend, the station area is transformed into a time capsule of Graubünden railway history with the ceremonial recommissioning of the restored steam locomotive RHÆTIA from 1889. A cultural highlight is the «Operette am Gleis», already included in the arrangement, a music theatre production created especially for this occasion, combining railway history, acting, choral singing and live music directly by Schiers station. The historic steam locomotive and the nostalgic train provide an impressive original backdrop.
After a leisurely breakfast and checking out of the hotel, it is time to say farewell and begin your individual journey home. You will take with you memories of a journey through Graubünden’s railway history.
